Course Overview

These Level 3 diplomas and certificates are advanced vocational qulifications which focus on the development of the underlying principles and practical skills required in the hairdressing industry. They are designed to deliver a high level of occupational capability and provide a sound platform from which to progress to NVQs.

Course content

  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • Promote additional services or products to clients
  • Provide hairdressing consultation services
  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
  • Colour hair using a variety of techniques
  • Provide colour correction services
  • Creatively style and dress hair
  • Creatively dress long hair
  • Develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills
  • Support client service improvements

Entry Requirements

Two GSCEs at Grade C or above and two GCSEs at Grade D or above or NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing or equivalent plus a satisfactory interview (two references and minimum 85% attendance).

Delivery & Assessment methods

All hairdressing programmes are assessed through a combination of the following: observation of practical work on clients; projects, assignments and case studies; written and oral questioning; work place assessment and a 'Portfolio of Evidence' to be submitted for assessment at the completion of the programme. You will also be required to complete a final written exam.

Progression

Employment in the hairdressing industry, or progression onto a barbering course.
