Course Overview
This course will provide the knowledge and skills required for working with children in these settings and engaging with a multi-agency workforce. It also prepares students to engage with further study, enquiry and practice where a knowledge of early years is required. The course is work based, enabling students to work alongside and be supported by, professionals in the workplace. The course can be studied by part-time attendance to suit most people’s work and family commitments.

- Childhood, children and learning: theory to practice
- Practical and responsive pedagogy within a play based curriculum
- Developing academic reflective practice
- Protecting children's welfare and safeguarding
- Assessment, observation and planning to foster children's learning
- Collaborative working with parents and others
- Developing positive learning environments
Entry Requirements
CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education or other equivalent Level 3 course. It is preferred that applicants have professional experience, working with children up to the age of eight years in an early years setting.
Progression
Course graduates can progress onto a full honours degree in Early Childhood Studies and then with a further year, a PGCE which will give qualified teacher status. It is also possible to train for Early Years Professional Status (EYPS).
