Birmingham Metropolitan College win Vocational/Professional Training Provider of the Year Award

College’s Vocational Science team

Birmingham Metropolitan College have been named Vocational/Professional Training Provider of the Year at the EducationInvestor Awards 2011. The award was presented to the College’s Vocational Science team in recognition of their training initiatives for those working in the cleaning industry as well as for those retraining for a new career in the sector.

“This is a huge honour and we are absolutely delighted to have received the award,” commented Principal and Chief Executive, Dr Christine Braddock CBE.  “For many years the College has advocated skills training within the cleaning industry in order for workers to be recognised as qualified professionals and experts in cleaning and facilities management.  

“Our award is testament to the fact that the College are now leaders in the field of vocational science training.  It also demonstrates how our commitment to high quality services has resulted in a wealth of benefits and career opportunities opening up for the thousands of people working in the cleaning sector.”

Birmingham Metropolitan College delivers cleaning science training for the unemployed, Apprenticeship programmes and qualifications for cleaning professionals at a state-of-the-art academy in Castle Vale, Birmingham that promotes environmental excellence.  Students can access a range of opportunities and diverse curriculum including environmental awareness, infection control, health and safety and cleaning operators proficiency.

Organisations worked with include Birmingham Children's Hospital, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Mailbox in Central Birmingham and Regent Cleaning.

The EducationInvestor Awards also commended the College for delivering training in association with JobCentre Plus to people that had been out of work for six months or more.  Learners were encouraged to retrain and successfully gained new employment in the cleaning industry after gaining level 1 and 2 cleaning science qualifications.

The EducationInvestor Awards is the only comprehensive ceremony which caters for the entire sector: from suppliers to consultants to academy schools; all the key players in the sector have a chance to be recognised
for their hard work and innovation.
